Group Boat Tours near Lapad & Babin Kuk

Lapad and Babin Kuk are Dubrovnik's leafy hotel quarter — and one of the easiest bases for a group boat tour, with our Gruž departure point just a few minutes away.

Lapad and Babin Kuk form the green, hotel-filled peninsula on the western side of Dubrovnik, a couple of kilometres from the Old Town. Many of the city's hotels and holiday apartments sit here, and almost all of them are only a short taxi, bus ride or walk from Gruž Harbour, where our group boat tours to the Blue Cave, the Elaphiti Islands and Mljet depart daily from April to October.

A hotel quarter built for easy mornings

If you’re staying in Lapad or Babin Kuk, you’ve picked one of the most convenient corners of Dubrovnik for a day on the water. This green peninsula on the western side of the city is where many of the hotels and holiday apartments are, and it backs almost straight onto Gruž — the working harbour where our shared boats set off. There’s no long transfer to start the day with: from most addresses here you’re at the quay within minutes.

That closeness matters most in the morning. The best light, the calmest sea and the quietest swimming stops all favour an early departure, and being a few minutes from the harbour means you can have a relaxed breakfast and still make the boat in good time. For the full picture of where you’ll board, see our guide to boat tours from Gruž Harbour.

Getting from Lapad to the boat

From the heart of Lapad or Babin Kuk it’s a five to ten minute taxi ride down to Gruž, a short hop on the city bus, or a pleasant 15 to 25 minute walk downhill if you’d rather stretch your legs. City bus lines 1a, 1b, 3 and 7 all serve this side of town and run to the harbour, and they’re frequent through the April to October season.

If you’re driving, there are public car parks along the Gruž waterfront a short walk from the meeting point — easier to find space in the early morning during the July and August peak. Whichever way you travel, aim to arrive about 15 minutes before departure so there’s no rush. When you book, we send the precise meeting spot, a map pin and your skipper’s name, so the start of the day is completely stress-free.

What you can reach from here

Because Gruž faces the islands, the most popular trips are also the closest. Our half-day Blue Cave & Elaphiti tour — around five hours, from €65 per person — swims into the cave on Koločep and then island-hops across the Elaphiti, and it’s an easy fit for a single morning out from Lapad. If you’d like longer on the water, the full-day Elaphiti trip (about eight hours, from €110 per person) gives you more time on each island, while the Mljet National Park day (around nine hours, from €120 per person) heads further south to the famous saltwater lakes.

Prefer something gentler? The two-hour sunset cruise (from €45 per person) is a lovely way to round off a day, and the harbour is just as close in the evening as it is at dawn. Every shared tour caps the group at twelve guests and includes your English-speaking local skipper, snorkelling gear, drinking water and all fuel and harbour fees; lunch, drinks and gratuities are not included.

Why a small group works here

We keep our boats to a maximum of twelve guests because it changes the whole feel of the day. There’s room to spread out, time to actually swim at each stop, and a skipper who can tell you where the water is clearest rather than herding a crowd. It’s a family-run operation, so the person who answers your message is often the one who’ll be at the wheel.

For guests basing themselves in Lapad and Babin Kuk, that combination of a short hop to the harbour and a relaxed, uncrowded boat makes for one of the simplest, most rewarding days out in Dubrovnik. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure means you can lock in your morning with confidence.

Check departures and book your seats, and we’ll send everything you need for an easy start from your Lapad doorstep.

Frequently asked questions

I'm staying in Lapad — where do the boats actually leave from?

All our shared departures leave from Gruž Harbour, on the eastern edge of the Lapad peninsula. From most Lapad and Babin Kuk hotels it's a five to ten minute taxi or bus ride, or a 15–25 minute walk downhill. We send the exact meeting pin with your booking.

Which bus gets me from Babin Kuk to the harbour?

City bus lines 1a, 1b, 3 and 7 all serve the Lapad and Babin Kuk area and run down to Gruž. Buses are frequent in season, but for an early start a taxi is the simplest option and only takes a few minutes.

Is Lapad a good base for a boat tour?

Yes. Because Gruž is so close, Lapad and Babin Kuk are among the easiest places in Dubrovnik to reach a morning departure. You can be aboard within minutes of leaving your hotel, with no long transfer first thing.
